Tear the Word Impossible out of your Dictionary and your Vocabulary.

Henry Ford probably most famous for starting and owning The Ford Motor Company.  Standing in a meeting with his engineers Ford told them that he wanted an 8 cylinder engine.  They said that they had tried many times and failed.  It was simply impossible to cast a block that would work.  Ford looked at them and said ok.  Build it anyway.

6 months go by and nothing changes.  12 months and still no engine.  Ford asked his lead engineer.  Sir the engineer said, we’ve tried everything.  We can’t cast the block, it’s impossible.  Ford smiled and said, build it anyway.

One day 18 months after the beginning of the project an engineer on the team had an idea.  The team cast the block based on that idea and the V8 engine was born giving the iconic auto manufacturer another milestone under his belt.

The reason I tell that story is that Ford didn’t acknowledge impossibility.  He never doubted that it could be done.

How many times do we quit before we even get started simply because we determine the goal impossible.

Oh! Ye of little faith!

Mark 1:12-13 CSB
[12] Immediately the Spirit drove him into the wilderness. [13] He was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and the angels were serving him.

When we read this text we often overlook the significance of what’s actually happening.  Christ is Fully God and Fully Man.  This is important because He needed to be able to completely relate to our condition as a man.

He needed to have been tempted just like man.

Often when talking about the cross we hear people say that Christ took all of our sins upon Himself.

Isaiah 53:5 CSB
[5] But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds.

1 Peter 2:24 CSB
[24] He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree; so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

When our sins were cast onto Him.  So were all of the consequences.  All of the strife, all of the pain, all of the sadness, the fear, the doubt, the heart crushing desire for it to end.  The list of those consequences is endless.

Christ did it anyway!

Why?  His love first and foremost of course.  But in that love.  That complete love for the Father.  The love that enables Him to love us, resides Truth.  Truth that He is not a slave to sin.   Truth that all things are possible with God.

Romans 6:10-11 CSB
[10] For the death he died, he died to sin once for all time; but the life he lives, he lives to God. [11] So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:13 CSB
[13] I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me.

Luke 1:37 CSB
[37] For nothing will be impossible with God.”

If I were to tell you I was going into the desert with no provisions for forty days.  You’d tell me that; you’re going to die.

Christ has been there.  He’s been tempted, He’s been tried.  He knows that nothing is impossible with God.  The text in Mark 1:12 says the Spirit Drove Him.  It took over and He went.  Willingly, because of faith in the One who authored those truths.  Faith in the One who authored Him as fully God and fully man. Faith in the One who authored you and me.  He walked out of that wilderness forty days later disproving impossibility.

We’re probably going to be in these verses a little while longer.  There’s a lot to this.  I hope now though that as you move forward you’ll reconsider what is impossible in your mind.  Impossible is simply not true.  You may not know how to do a thing for the Lord but that shouldn’t stop you from doing it.  In most cases I’ve found that the word impossible is simply a more palatable version of the word fear.  Fear is always a lie.  It has a necessary use, to make you stop and think.  But it’s always a lie.  You see fear is always about what might happen and not a guarantee of what will happen.

Nothing is impossible with God!

Will you tear impossible out of your dictionary and vocabulary?  Will you seek God instead?

That is my prayer for us.

Love in Christ,

Colby
