It’s Thanksgiving time again. I’m evaluating myself to answer the question…
What am I thankful for?
The standard stuff for sure. My wife, my family, my home life. I am thankful that the bills are paid and that there is food on the table. Those are the things we say at the Thanksgiving table and we should absolutely be thankful for those things. But I am thankful for so much more that it will be difficult to list it all. I am so blessed though that I must at least tell you some.
I’m thankful for the Bible verses that remind me that thankfulness is a daily endeavor and not just a “during the holidays” thing. Here’s a few. There are many more.
Psalms 107:1 CSB
[1] Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his faithful love endures forever.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 CSB
[18] give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Colossians 3:17 CSB
[17] And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
I am thankful for the spiritual journey God has placed me on. A journey that has placed me under many wonderful pastors and teachers. Here are some first names only to keep identity safety. Gary, Jeremiah, Jason, Tony, Tommy, John, CJ, Albert, Jimmy, Dan, Dustin, Scott, Nathaniel, and Shea. I’m sure there are more that I can’t remember. I’m thankful for the Holy Spirit in me who can.
I am thankful for the promises of God that give me the fortitude to pick up my cross and follow Jesus daily.
Psalms 23:4 CSB
[4] Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for you are with me; your rod and your staff — they comfort me.
Psalms 63:3 CSB
[3] My lips will glorify you because your faithful love is better than life.
Matthew 28:18-20 CSB
[18] Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. [19] Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
John 3:16-18 CSB
[16] For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. [18] Anyone who believes in him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.
Romans 5:8 CSB
[8] But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
And many many more.
I am thankful for you.
Most of all though I am thankful for
Jesus my King.
I hope this finds you well and helps you think of things that you’re thankful for.
Thankfulness is more than an action or feeling. It’s a lifestyle. It’s gracious and loving. Hmm…
It’s a lot like Jesus. One more thing to be thankful for.
Love in Christ,
Colby
